Designed and Structured for Early Stage Investing
The Long River team has sat on both sides of the table; we've been founders/CEO's of venture-backed start-ups, as well as investors. As entrepreneurs, Long River principals have launched and operated over a dozen companies. Collectively we have raised more than $170 million in venture capital, giving us an excellent perspective on the "sell" side of capitalizing a growing company. As investors, we have been partners in both large and small venture capital firms. We have taken the lessons learned from these experiences and created a venture firm with the structure and culture to meet the needs of companies in the early stages of their growth.

The “Right” Amount of Initial Capital – Starting Small to Preserve Flexibility
As many traditional early-stage venture firms have increased their fund size, "starting small" has become increasingly difficult for entrepreneurs. Long River Ventures often works with companies that are raising rounds of $5MM or less and that can reach key business milestones in a capital efficient manner. We are particularly attracted to opportunities where entrepreneurs can build successful smaller companies first, thereby proving their technology and business model. By keeping the capital base modest initially, the company minimizes dilution and preserves its options, which may include a successful early trade sale, steady growth, or more aggressive funding to take advantage of a larger business opportunity.

More Aggressive Funding, Where Appropriate
Although we focus on capital efficiency in the early going, when a larger opportunity is available, or develops over time, we have the financial reach to provide the capital to take a company to a different level. We do this, first by building strong syndicates around our portfolio companies that have ample reserves for future rounds; and second, through a set of partnerships and affiliations with larger firms interested in making follow-on investments in our portfolio companies.
